4 tips for a cool night’s sleep
In addition to buying a cool pillow, we have a few other tips to make sure you can sleep well in the summer.
1. Cool your body down before going to bed
There are several ways to cool down your body before going to bed. Try to limit physical activity in the evening as much as possible. This will prevent your body from getting hot and waking up frequently during the night.
Also try to avoid food as much as possible right before bedtime. Your body is not made to process food during your sleep, in addition, it can cause obesity and cause heartburn. 5 ways to let your body cool down are:
- Hold your wrists in a bowl of cold water for a moment. The wrist is very sensitive and therefore you will feel less warm.
- Take a nice cold shower. To bring the body to a better temperature it is best to take a nice cold shower before bed.
- If even a summer comforter gets too hot, take a towel and dip it in the water and then use it as a comforter. Just to be sure, put a towel underneath to avoid staining your fitted sheet.
- Drink a glass of water before you go to bed. This prevents dehydration and is healthier, as you will be sweating a lot during sleep.
- Let your partner literally lie on your side, lying too close to your partner will cause even more heat. So be a little less romantic for a night.
2. Turn your pillow over
By your body heat, your pillow also gets warmer during the night. If you wake up in the night because of the heat, you can turn both your pillow and pillowcase over. The bottom of your pillow will be a lot cooler because it hasn’t been in contact with your body.
3. Put your bedding in the fridge
This old trick won’t keep you cool all night, but it will help you fall asleep faster. Put your cover and pillowcase in a plastic sealed bag and pop the bag in the fridge for a few minutes. Make sure bag is sealed tightly so your bedding doesn’t get wet. After a few minutes, remove the bedding from the fridge and enjoy a cool night’s sleep.
4. Buy the right pillowcase
The quality of your comforter, pillow and bedding will affect how well it absorbs moisture and regulates temperature. For pillowcases, a higher quality (expressed in Tread count [TC]) equals a cooler pillowcase. We recommend a pillowcase with a Tread count of at least 300.
