Calculate bed size
The duvet size that fits you is dependent on:
- the size of your mattress or box spring.
- the distance between your mattress and the floor.
- your height.
- your choice of single or double duvet.
Maximum width of duvet = the distance between the mattress and the floor + the width of the mattress.
By not exceeding the maximum width of the duvet, you prevent the duvet from touching the floor.On average, your duvet is 50 to 60cm wider than your mattress.
Are you taller than 1.85 metres or do you prefer to tuck the duvet under your mattress? Then choose a 220cm length, otherwise a duvet of 200cm long is sufficient.
You should also take into account the type of duvet. Two single duvets together can be wider than one double duvet. On a mattress of size 200x200cm, for example, a double duvet of 240x220cm fits, but also two single duvets of 140x220cm each.
The importance of the right duvet size
.If the size of your duvet does not match the size of your bed then you will run into the following:
- You wake up more the cold.
- The duvet doesn’t run nicely over the side of your bed.
- You get cold feet (when the length size is too short).
- Fight with your partner because he/she has too little “duvet”.
The right quilt
Coverlets can be bought in the same size as the duvet. For example, if you have chosen a 240x220cm duvet, you will need a 240x220cm duvet cover.

What size duvet is suitable for a child’s bed?
Of course, your little one also needs a well-fitting duvet. However, the standard sizes for single beds are far too big for your child’s bed. We recommend a 120x150cm duvet. We do not offer these ourselves, but they are available from Jysk and Hema.
