Fletcher duvets
The Fletcher duvet is filled with hollow fibers and finished with a microfiber cover. Due to the synthetic filling, the duvet is easily washable. Since Fletcher welcomes new guests every day, this is ideal for hygiene. It is a lightweight duvet and suitable for people with house dust mite allergies.
All in all, the Fletcher duvet is a fairly simple duvet. It is ideal for a hotel, as the temperature can be well-regulated there through insulation and air conditioning. At home, this duvet may feel sweaty due to the use of synthetic materials. However, for this low price, it is a decent duvet.
Van der Valk duvets
The Van der Valk family takes a slightly different approach than Fletcher. Within the family, some locations are allowed to choose which type of duvet they want to provide for their guests. For example, you might find down duvets at the Van der Valk hotel in Enschede, while another location might use an “ecodown” duvet. These are duvets filled with a synthetic fiber. Most locations use an ecodown duvet.
NH Hotel duvet
It is important to know that the NH Hotel Group consists of NH Hotels and NH Collection Hotels. The more luxurious NH Collection hotels likely use down duvets, while the standard NH Hotels use synthetic duvets. Unlike Fletcher, these duvets feature a cotton cover. This breathes better than a microfiber cover. You get a lot of value for your money at that price, although a synthetic duvet still breathes less effectively and feels clammier than a down duvet.
Duvets from 5-star hotels
Remarkably, the largest 4-star hotels all use synthetic duvets. Since the temperature in hotel rooms is easy to control and the duvets are washed frequently, this works fine. It works less well at home, as you deal more with temperature fluctuations and you don’t wash your duvet every week.
A down duvet is lighter, absorbs moisture easily, and offers a more pleasant temperature.
The 3 best hotel duvets for your home
I am surprised that only a few Van der Valk hotels carry these duvets. Upon closer inspection, it turned out that the 5 best 5-star hotels (according to Tripadvisor) fortunately do use down duvets. I was a bit disappointed, so I have put together a list of the best duvets for the ultimate hotel feeling at home.
1. The most luxurious hotel feeling
The lightweight champion of the three. By using very high-quality goose down, relatively little filling is needed to create a pleasant warmth. This duvet from the German manufacturer Kauffmann is filled with only 380 grams of goose down. The duvet is finished with an Egyptian cotton cover, making it feel incredibly soft and supple. Chances are you won’t even find this duvet in a hotel; it actually surpasses most hotel duvets due to its superior quality and ultimate comfort.
2. Best 4-season duvet
While most hotel duvets consist of only one part, that is often less ideal for a home situation, as summer temperatures require completely different insulation than winter cold. The Vandyck Superior DUO responds well to this. The duvet consists of two parts that can be used together or separately. This way, you have the right duvet for every season. As the name suggests, the duvet has a superior level of finishing. It is filled with very large goose down clusters (the larger the clusters, the higher the quality). This duvet is also finished with a superior cover with an NM value of 180. The higher the NM value, the more supple and soft the duvet feels.
3. Best duvet for bedrooms with “hotel temperatures”
