A baffle box and sewn-through comforters comforter, you’ve probably seen the terms passed by on several occasions. They are, in fact, widely used specialist terms in the bedding industry. The way in which a comforter is stitched determines the extent to which the filling can shift. In addition, it has a smaller influence on the insulation value. You can read exactly how it works below!
The production of a comforter

First of all, comforters are filled with, for example, goose or duck down. Then the comforters are stitched, this is an important part that is carried out precisely by production staff using special sewing machines. This precision is required, in order to comply with the strict European standards and the Nomite quality mark. Before stitching begins, the method of stitching is chosen, baffle box or sewn-through. There are in fact differences in the way of stitching between these two methods.
The sewn-through comforter

With a sewn-through comforter, the bottom and top of the compartments are sewn directly onto each other. The comforter ventilates better in these places but cold zones can also occur as a result. In addition, this method of production is relatively cheap compared with a baffle box comforter. Therefore, a sewn-through is mainly used for summer comforters or low-priced comforters.

The baffle box comforter

A comforter that is cassette stitched is also divided into compartments. The illustration shows that the top and bottom of the compartments are separated by small “dividers”. As a result, the down pockets neatly join together so that no cold zones are created in the comforter. A baffle box stitched comforter promotes good insulation.

The best choice
Thinking about the best choice is not necessary. The manufacturer already chooses the right stitching for the right comforter. You will see that most summer comforters are sewn-through while other comforters are often baffle box.
